BIITT at Berlin - MaaS (Mobility as a Service)

INNOTRANS 2018, as the most important and comprehensive exhibition of railway and rail transit industry achievement in the world, has successfully held 12 sessions. Such exhibitions are not only an important part of the whole market development of the exhibitors, but also rapidly develop into platforms for communication and information sharing among enterprises.

In the course of communication and learning during the exhibition, the most common word that BIITT (hereinafter referred to as “Company”) came across was MaaS (Mobility as a Service). It refers to the combination of bus, rail transit (including suburban railways), carpooling, taxi, shared bicycle and other public transportation vehicles to form a multi-mode transportation solution. Customers reserve travel services with a comprehensive account accessed through the application and pay for the services. MaaS needs a platform that not only connects various travel services, but also accepts user payments and distributes revenue to different travel service providers.

The company is committed to developing passenger-oriented terminal equipment for rail transit travel service providers, and providing operators with central-level applications, such as network-level ACC, MLC, and Big Data Decision-making Support System. Rail transit travel service is an important part of MaaS. On the basis of serving rail transit travel service providers, the company actively expands cooperation with other travel service providers, to jointly improve passengers’ travel experience.

In recent years, with the booming of payment methods, the number of payment providers in rail transit has increased rapidly. There are five payment services available for passengers in some cities, ranging from IC card tickets, mobile phone NFC, QR code to direct “face swiping” access. ACC plays the role of providing revenue distribution for payment service providers and operators within the network. The company has developed ACC, a cloud platform-based Software as a Service (SaaS), which provides equal benefits for metro companies and payment service providers, offers a unified access environment for new payment services, greatly shortens the launching time for new payment services, and provides more payment options for passengers.

At InnoTrans 2018, the company successfully showcased a new generation of AFC machine, namely automatic identity checking & fare collection machine, which integrates face recognition technology. The device can complete the identity checking and card swiping at the same time. There used to be two major problems with IC card payment: the loss of ticket card caused property losses to passengers. Even if the passengers could report the loss so as to prevent the lost ticket cards from being used by others, they still had to bear the cash losses arising therefrom. The other problem was that employee card and welfare ticket card could not be recognized or dedicated for special purpose, so manual inspection was usually adopted to prevent fraudulent use. Automatic identity checking & fare collection machine can properly solve the above two problems. With face recognition technology, password verification function is added to each ticket card, and the password is the unique facial feature of each person. Passengers never have to worry about the loss of their cards, and the operating departments no longer need to adopt manual inspection to prevent fraudulent use of ticket cards. At the same time, face recognition technology provides security guarantee for payment service upgrading from cash payment to credit payment.
