With the development of the Internet and cloud computing, a large amount of “big data” has been formed, which has further gave birth to the term “big data”. The arrival of big data brings not only a technology or a resource, but also a huge chance and represents a great era. It accelerates the development of new technologies, new industries and new business models and becomes an important force for economic transformation and upgrading.

China’s rail transit industry is booming. With the continuous expansion of operation mileage and management scale of major cities throughout the country, the four elements of human, vehicles, rail and environment are interconnected and interlinked at every moment. All kinds of professional equipment systems are recording and storing data anytime and anywhere. The analysis, mining and application of massive data thus generated have become the core content of intelligent data management of rail transit.

Today, the 2nd Summit Forum on Big Data and Innovative Operations Management of Urban Rail Transit (2018) (hereinafter referred to as “Forum”), sponsored by the Special Committee for the Operation and Management of China Association of Urban Rail Transit, organized by Beijing Infrastructure Investment Co., Ltd., was successfully held in Beijing. More than 200 leaders of owner units, experts and representatives of leading enterprises from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou and other places gathered together to conduct high-level discussion and exchange on how to make use of big data to innovate and develop urban rail transit.

One of the most important applications of big data technology in urban rail transit is the application and processing of passenger flow data. At the forum, Mr. Tian Kexin, General Manager of Information Business Department of BII Railway Transportation Technology Holdings Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as “BIITT”), put forward the concept of production domain and management domain in his speech, and pointed out that the key to building a large data platform for enterprises in rail transit is to integrate the data in production domain and in management domain. Only by relying on data from the two domains, can we maximize the value of big data in building intelligent subway. Based on the above concepts, Mr. Tian shared the conceptual model of building large data platform for rail transit enterprises in this speech, and how to build an enterprise data pool and an enterprise data ecosphere based on this model. At the same time, he also shared three enterprise value applications based on passenger flow forecasting and task portrait big data platform, so that the value brought by big data can truly be applied to the daily operation and management of enterprises. 

Under the background of the rapid development of urban rail transit industry and network operation in China, it is of great significance to further clarify the relationship between the innovation of urban rail transit operation management and the application of big data, promote the in-depth integration of big data application and urban rail transit, so as to master the inherent operation rules of urban rail transit operation management, and grasp the development trend and innovative development ability.
